Life's Mountains

Challenges create the person we're meant to become

As life goes on, we always notice certain actions others do and the outcomes of what
happens when people make choices. During life I have realized that so many people seek to do what is easy but not what is hard, I wonder...'why do something easy when it won't make you into a better person?' Perhaps it's just my train of thought of always having to do what is hard rather than what is simple. I find it a shame that so many of us run from difficulties and are afraid of a challenge. Others see a mountain, noticing how massive it is and immediately run the other direction. I believe that the best way to overcome challenges in your life is to face it head on without hesitation. "The only thing to fear is fear itself"-Franklin D. Roosevelt.

My mountains included the bullies I was facing, the laughter that became a joke, my enemies who would use me for the kindness I have given, within the eye's of my peers I was a fool for having a voice. I really struggled with accepting the fact that I wouldn't be able to talk like all those who surrounded me. The fear of being different scared me. Although, within my heart I knew I needed to accept this difficulty and create it into a blessing rather than a trial. To step away from my comfort zone and walk into the darkness that I feared for years. Walking into the area where the wolves would be creeping to frighten me away from sharing what I held within my heart. Facing my enemies instead of hiding. Once I began to do so, my life was changed for the better. I only yearn to accomplish difficulties because I know that doing what is hard will create the person I'm meant to become.

We all have mountains in our life and it's our choice whether or not to climb them. Of course, we can make excuses but doing so will never make our life better. Avoiding such things will only make us weaker and more accepting to easier tasks which...in the end is wasting away our life day by day because we wouldn't be progressing. Living life is about climbing, taking risks and sometimes even getting hurt so that we may understand how precious life truly is. How facing mountains will make us mentally stronger. Never be afraid to become the best version of yourself and always do your best to thrive in the struggle. Keep your head up and press forward!

  1. Sister Schill, I really enjoyed reading your 4 posts. It has helped me to gain a more clear perspective of your journey. It sounds like you have often had to face wolves and I’m sure that will continue to be a part of your life, honestly it breaks my heart. I wish it was not the case. Nonetheless, through all this opposition you have become a vibrant, strong Lion with a clear voice and purpose. Being around you for just a short time has taught me the importance of really listening and to try to speak words that matter. Our family is so glad you chose to serve a mission and were called here to the Manito ward! I look forward to hearing about all the struggles and triumphs. You are a testament that “Through God all things are possible”!
